4th Birthday Bash - The Archie 11th November 2011

The club's 4th birthday was celebrated in fine style at the Archibald Worthington Club in Whitchurch. Some 72 members and partners enjoyed an excellent food, a quiz, the presentation of club awards and a raffle! We were honoured to have Liz Wilbraham present to present our magnificent new "Don Wilbraham Handicap trophy". Liz also commented on how much Don enjoyed his time with the club. Sadly the winner, James Rainbow, was ill in bed and unable to receive the trophy. Apart from James, a great night was had by all!

We were also treated to a birthday cake in club colours in the shape of the Number 4 - and very nice it was too!. All thanks to Rob Sharam. And no, he didn't get a Marathon place just because he baked a cake!

We were also treated to a yummy birthday cake courtesy of Jean Bancroft. Thanks, Jean.

2nd Birthday Bash - Dodington Lodge 13th November 2009

Around forty-five sat down for a hotpot and apple pie supper to celebrate the club's second birthday. The meal was followed by the presentation of our annual awards. The nominees and winners are detailed below. Fortunately there were no embarrassing Hollywood style thank-you speeches so we were all able to get back to the important stuff without too much delay. Even the Chairman kept his welcome speech short.

As well as the award presentations the draw for 2 club places in the London Marathon took place. The lucky(?) winners were Daren Peacock and Andrew Corbett.

Andrew was doubly unlucky because he also won a copy of my novel in the raffle that followed - thanks to all the committee members who contributed prizes. Wisely Andrew had me sign the book to Maureen. I fully expect to see it re-appear in next year's raffle!

The formal proceedings were rounded off by Jon Morgan presenting Alison and Adele with flowers as a thank-you for their work in organising the do.

Sadly, no one disgraced themselves enough to warrant a special mention - unless you count Sean's holiday pictures. Fortunately they were the sanitised ones!

Whippets Birthday Party 14th November 2008

It may look like we're trying to keep our hands warm over a single candle - but we were actually cutting the club's birthday cake. cutting the cake
awards groupGood job someone remembered we should photograph the award winners. Apologies to Andy and Jo who had already left.
Whippets Summer Social 5th July 2008
Curshaws, in Jubilee Park, was the venue for the club’s first Summer Social. Despite weddings and holidays, 18 people braved the summer showers to fill the upstairs Conservatory. social2
social3We even had our own game of musical chairs as it was only possible to fit in enough chairs for one less than the number present! Still, we are supposed to be a fit bunch.
Justice was done to the buffet but it was with regret that I watched the staff clear away the remnants.social1
social4Entertainment was provided by Australian singer/guitarist Cameron. Carrie had to be dragged out to her waiting taxi as he performed an accurate and stirring acoustic midnight rendition of Stairway to Heaven.

I left Simon Phillips and Jonathan Morgan drinking into the morning hours.

A good time was had by all.
